Backpacking Meals
| I used to buy those expensive, prepackaged backpacking meals. Eventually I found it cheaper to switch over to simple foods, like rice. Rice is lightweight and nutritious. Much of the world lives on rice. I figure I can do the same for a few days.
I like to get dried soup mixes to add to the rice to give it some flavor. Dried tomato soup is my favorite. Beyond that I bring along trail mixes, for the times I don't want to cook, or something to survive on in the event my stove breaks. I always have plenty of chocolate along, and oatmeal for morning. Some coffee and hot chocolate goes great with sitting on a rock and watching the sunrise or sunset. Rei.com has information on planning meals. You will also find good articles on cookware and water purifiers. |
